Security Stages
Post-Security
The post-security, or airside, area of an international airport is located beyond the TSA checkpoints and is restricted to ticketed passengers and authorized personnel. Concessions and services in this area are designed to meet the needs of travelers waiting for their flights, offering a wide range of retail shops, duty-free stores, restaurants, lounges, and personal services such as spas or business centers. Because passengers have already completed security screening, the airside environment is often more relaxed and focused on comfort, convenience, and last-minute travel needs prior to boarding.
Pre-Security
The pre-security, or landside, area of an international airport refers to the portion of the terminal that is accessible to the general public before passing through Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints. Concessions and services in this area typically include ticketing counters, baggage claim, information desks, rental car services, and retail or dining options such as coffee shops, restaurants, convenience stores, and newsstands. These amenities serve both travelers and non-traveling visitors, providing convenient access to food, shopping, and essential services before entering the secure portions of the airport.
