WHO: The City of Tampa and the Tampa International Airport are ready to open the new Air Cargo Road to public access. The new tree lined, four-lane divided road will serve as the primary north-south access for the Airport’s east side development area. The 1.4 mile Cargo Road extension connects Ohio Avenue to Hillsborough Avenue. 

New Nonstop Service to TPA & JAX Airports

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport today announced that Continental Airlines will begin nonstop service to Tampa (TPA) and Jacksonville (JAX), FL, beginning June 1, 2009. Service will begin by operating three days a week in each market. Flights are supported by Grand Casino Biloxi and IP Casino Resort but seats are also available to the general public and on sale now.

19 Airport Concession Awards Presented

INDIANAPOLIS — Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) today recognized John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 5 – JetBlue Airways as the Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence winner in the 2009 Airport Concessions Contest. John Cugasi, Director of Concessions and Retail, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, was also recognized as ACI-NA’s Concessions “Person of the Year.”

FIERO Merit Award for Tampa Airport Aircraft and Firefighting Facility to be Presented to Tampa International Airport and City of Tampa

Tampa – PBS&J’s architecture division recently received a 2008 merit award for the new construction design of Tampa International Airport’s (TPA) Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility (ARFF). The award was presented by the Fire Industry Equipment Research Organization (FIERO), and selection for the award was based on various aspects of planning and design including site plan, floor plan(s), and architectural image.

AirTran Airways Returns Scheduled Service to Gulfport/Biloxi, Miss.

Low Cost Carrier Adds Flights to Atlanta and Tampa

ORLANDO, Fla. – AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), today announced plans to resume scheduled service from Gulfport/Biloxi, Miss., to the carrier's hub in Atlanta and add new service from Gulfport/Biloxi to Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla. 

This service will begin on Friday, January 8, 2010, and will replace existing charter service to Atlanta. Flights to Atlanta and Tampa/St. Petersburg will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with the airline's Wi-Fi equipped, Boeing 717. 

Accreditation Assessment Team for Airport Police Department Invites Public Comment

TAMPA – A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive August 15, 2009, to examine all aspects of the Tampa International Airport Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services. 

CALEA sends a team to verify that the Airport Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards as a part of a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation by compliance with 463 standards as opposed with 373 standards with initial accreditation in 2006.
