Tampa is voted as Third Best (U.S.) Airport

The annual Condé Nast Traveler Business Travel Awards were just released in the October 2010 issue of the publication. 

Tampa International Airport was voted the best domestic airport coming in at third place behind #1 Portland and #2 Washington D.C. (Reagan). Following TPA is Orlando, San Diego, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Detroit. 

Tampa International Airport Traveler Update

Tampa – On Friday, October 15, 2010 at 12:01 am the following parking rate change will go into effect at Tampa International Airport: 

Under one hour parking will be free in both the Short Term and Long Term Parking Garages. At 61 minutes, parking charges will be assessed retroactive to the time of entry.

TAMPA - In an effort to attract more nonstop flights to Tampa International Airport, TPA’s newly formed Marketing Committee, chaired by Airport vice chairman Steven Burton, is launching a new online marketing survey with the help of the Tampa Bay Partnership and a coalition of business and economic development partners.

TAMPA – The recruitment firm of Spencer Stuart has recommended an impressive slate of candidates to participate in interviews for the position of executive director for the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority at Tampa International Airport. 

Pemco Expands Operations at Tampa International Airport

Tampa - Tampa International Airport board of directors approved a new lease agreement for a second facility and ground area with Pemco World Air Services Inc. Since March 2008, Pemco has leased one maintenance hangar, the vacated US Airways hangar. At today’s board meeting, Pemco received approval to expand to the Red hangar or vacated Delta Hangar. 

Currently, Pemco employs 200 to 300 workers in Tampa who perform heavy aircraft maintenance and restore cabin interiors for jetBlue Airways and United Airlines.

WHO: Tampa International Airport, along with other Florida airports, has been put on alert to possibly process evacuees from Haiti. The Airport has already called two emergency planning meetings today to discuss various procedures of how to process Haitian evacuees who may be Haitian Americans or other, without identification. Evacuees may be healthy or in need of medical attention. And some Haitians may have friends/family in U.S. and need connecting air service or may need assistance and a place to stay. 

It’s Official – Employment Contract signed

Dallas executive vice president Joseph W. Lopano accepts offer as Tampa International Airport’s new chief executive officer

Tampa – The Tampa International Airport five-member board of directors are pleased to announce that Joseph W. Lopano has agreed to accept the offer today to become the Chief Executive Officer of the Tampa International Airport. 

“He’s eager to come on board,” stated Al Austin, chairman, Tampa International Airport board. Lopano starts as CEO of the Tampa Airport on January 1, 2011.

Global Aviation Holdings Picks Tampa for Growth

TAMPA – At its end-of-the-year 2010 monthly meeting, the Tampa International Airport board of directors unanimously approved a new 10-year agreement with Global Aviation Holdings Inc., which owns World Airways and North American Airlines.
