Delta Air Lines Expanding Cancun Service

Airline adding weekly flights between Cancun, Mexico, and four U.S. cities

ATLANTA, Aug. 20, 2010 – Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced new seasonal service between Cancun, Mexico, and four U.S. cities: San Antonio and Austin, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; and Tampa, Fla.; effective Feb. 19, 2011*. 

The service will operate on Saturdays, using 142-seat MD-88 aircraft, equipped with 14 seats in First Class and 128 in Economy. 

Contingency Plans in Place at TPA to Meet New Tarmac Rules

Tampa, FL – On April 29, 2010, new regulations called “Enhanced Airline Passenger Protections” went into effect with the requirement for airlines to develop and adopt a contingency plan for lengthy tarmac delays. Under the new regulation, air carriers are required to assure that their plan has been coordinated with the airport authority at which the carrier serves. 

The Aviation Authority stands ready to assist the airlines serving Tampa International Airport and is committed to assisting each airline in meeting these new requirements. 

Cayman Airways introduces cheaper business class

As part of their initiative to create the lowest fares for travel to and from Cayman Islands, Cayman Airways has announced a long–term offer of new business class airfares. 

A roundtrip to Miami from Grand Cayman is now US$488 and GCM to Tampa return is $518. The fares do not include taxes or fees, are based on seat availability and other booking restrictions apply.

Airport Board of Directors Pick Joseph W. Lopano as New CEO

The Tampa International Airport five-member board of directors has selected Dallas executive vice president Joseph W. Lopano as Tampa’s new chief executive officer. The members held a special meeting to discuss the final two candidates and select a finalist. 

The members were very impressed with both candidates and spoke very highly of Lester Robinson, former Detroit Metropolitan Airport. However, it was a unanimous vote for Lopano.

Airport Board Appoints Wheat as Interim Executive Director

Tampa – At its monthly board meeting, the Tampa International Airport board of directors voted unanimously to accept the 14-year executive director Louis E. Miller’s resignation and appoint deputy executive director John Wheat as his interim replacement effective March 5. 

The Aviation Authority Welcomes New Board Members and Announces Reorganization

TAMPA – State of Florida Governor Charlie Crist has appointed attorney Steven G. Burton and surgeon Dr. Joseph F. Diaco to the Aviation Authority to serve on the five-member board at Tampa International Airport. 

Both Burton and Diaco will serve terms that began July 15 and will end July 1, 2013. Burton is an attorney with Broad and Cassel Attorneys at Law and Diaco is a retired surgeon. 

Tampa International Airport Recipient of the First ACC Excellence in Procurement Award

Washington, DC – Tampa International Airport in Tampa, Florida became the first ever recipient of the Airport Consultants Council (ACC) Excellence in Procurement Award. The Award was presented at the 2009 ACC/AAAE Airport Planning, Design and Construction Symposium in Denver, Colorado during a luncheon on February 26, 2009. The Award recognizes an airport or airport sponsor that demonstrates excellence in procurement and contracting practices. 

Tampa International Airport Ready to “Get to Work” with Stimulus Funds

Tampa, FL – On Friday, March 20, Airport officials were informed by U.S. Representative Kathy Castor (Florida’s 11th Congressional District) that Tampa International will receive 8 million dollars in airport improvement funds, a part of the $787 billion federal stimulus package known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funds provide for a portion of the $52 million required for the “Taxiway B Reconstruction and Bridge” project.
