(October 1, 2015) Tampa International Airport guests who leave behind sunglasses, belts, clothing and other low-value items can now search for those online, thanks to a new system launched in September. The new Lost Property Administration System (L-PAS) allows guests to browse through TPA’s inventory of found items before contacting airport staff either through an online form or by phone.
Brian Ortiz, TPA’s AOC Manager who oversees the Lost & Found Department, said property claimants must still speak to airport staff and describe the items and where they were lost, and they’ve already been able to connect guests with their belongings just a few weeks after launching the system. The L-PAS is expected to help the TPA return more items to guests while providing better and more efficient customer service.
One guest submitted a compliment through the airport’s website on Sunday.
“My wife left her coat behind yesterday in the baggage claim area,” said Glenn Potts. “The online tools available to report the loss are outstanding. Everyone we talked with on the phone was very courteous. The lady that helped us at the lost and found office on Sunday was very professional and helpful. We retrieved my wife's lost jacket and we are very happy with the service we were provided. Our compliments and thanks to all involved.”
The Lost and Found staff will still require guests to initiate contact and provide more extensive description for high-value items such as laptops, phones, jewelry and luggage if they are unable to locate the owners first.
