The Airfield Tour Program is an opportunity to see Tampa International Airport like you’ve never seen it before.
From our 20-passenger mini-bus, watch for arriving and departing aircraft as we drive along the airport service roads where you’ll learn about:
- Airfield Maintenance
- Air Cargo
- Firefighter Training
- Fuel Farm
- Aircraft Maintenance Hangars
- Airport Fire Station
- General Aviation Facilities
Your experienced guide will talk about the instrument landing system, runways, and taxiways while you watch planes land and take off. The tour includes a visit to the airport fire station to learn firsthand from the crew what it takes to be an airport firefighter while taking an up-close look at the special Aircraft Rescue and firefighting vehicles.
Airport tours are tailored to meet the interests and academic level of your group. Guests with an interest in careers can request that their tour include additional information on professions in the aviation industry.
All groups are welcome. Groups with participants requiring accommodations for special needs such as wheelchair accessibility should discuss any requirements with the Program Coordinator at the time of booking.
Tours are offered four days a week and last approximately one hour. The maximum number of participants that can be accommodated on our tour bus is 20, including chaperones. Arrangements can be made for larger groups by selecting an additional tour and dividing into smaller groups.
The minimum age to participate is 6 years old. Chaperones are required for all student groups.
- 1st - 3rd grade - 1 per 5 students
- 4th - 6th grade - 1 per 10 students
- 7th - 12th grade - 1 per 15 students
The tour is free of charge, and there is free parking for commercial vehicles such as school buses. An airport souvenir is also provided to each participating tour guest.
