Tampa Bay Prepares for AOPA
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) will return to Tampa, November 5-7 for the 2009 Aviation Summit. The Summit includes an educational program with informative speakers from both the private and public sector and forums featuring the most current aviation topics. Organizers say, "AOPA's annual convention has undergone an exciting transformation to the all-new AOPA Aviation Summit. The Summit will feature new experiences, events, education, and opportunities to touch, test, and interact with the people and technology that's relevant to the way you fly or to help you realize your dream of learning to fly." A highlight of the AOPA summit will be Airportfest! Airportfest will take place at Peter O. Knight Airport on Davis Islands and will offer non-stop activities for the entire family. Airport Recognized for 13th Straight Year
Tampa International Airport has once again been recognized for having “zero discrepancies” during its annual FAA FAR part 139 inspection. The inspection lasts for three days and includes evaluations of administration, airfield maintenance and fire fighting capabilities.

Flu shots Available at Airport

The Flu-Ease kiosk is open 7 days a week.

On October 1, 2009, Tampa International Airport began offering flu shots to airport patrons. The shots are in response to the nationwide concerns about the spread of influenza, mostly due to the attention brought on by the H1N1 virus. The service will be offered October 1— November 30 as a trial period to gauge customer interest. The shots are administered through Flu-Ease and will cost $35. Kiosks are set up on Level 3 of the Landside Terminal and at all four Airsides.

Airport Opens New Air Cargo Road
On Wednesday, August 19th airport officials cut the ribbon on the new Air Cargo Road, opening the roadway for public access. The new tree lined, four-lane divided road will serve as the primary north-south access for the Airport's east side development area. The new road is 1.4 miles long, fully landscaped and features retention ponds and dry ponds that are part of an extensive storm drain system. The project was completed ahead of schedule, and cost $21 million dollars.
The Air Cargo Road project is part of the Airport's Master Plan Program.
