Although every storm situation is different, there are some standard procedures that the public should be aware of in preparation for hurricane season. Click here for hurricane information from TPA.

The airport is never “closed”; but weather conditions may require the suspension of aircraft operations. The point at which an airline suspends their operations, resumes operations, policy regarding changes to booked air travel and waiving of fees to make changes to non-refundable tickets are all decisions made by the individual airlines. Passengers must contact the airline directly for this information. It may be difficult for passengers to get through to agents by phone. They should check the airline website, if possible, since many airlines will post updated information on their storm policy and flight operations regularly. The airport is not a shelter; it is located in an evacuation zone. Even after a Category 1 storm, access to the airport roadways may be limited due to storm surge.
